GIRLS FUND HOME FOR UGANDA ORPHANS

Moved by the plight of orphans in a district of Uganda, girls from the13th Ipswich Girls’ Brigade Company attached to Castle Hill United Reformed Church set about raising funds to pay for a home capable of housing six orphans.

The 13th Ipswich Girls Brigade is a vibrant and energetic Company based at Castle Hill United Reformed Church in Dryden Road. Following an evening during which Church Members Lyn & Tony Wright gave a presentation of their visit last year, to Uganda, they pledged to raise funds for the area that Lyn and Tony visited. The girls were especially touched by the plight of the many homeless orphans at Bucence, near Rukungiri so specifically targeted this in an effort to raise the £400 necessary to build a semi permanent house able to accommodate six orphans.

To this end, the girls held a cake stall evening in April where they all brought along varieties of cakes, many made by themselves, for sale to parents and visitors. This raised and was followed by a fund-raising evening last month where the girls provided Cream Teas, held a sale of books, bric-a-brac, and set up fun stall with games , face painting etc. Money raised by the girls at these events exceeded their target and they were able to present a cheque for over £518 to the fund

Lyn Wright said; “This was a tremendous effort by the girls - it is so gratifying to know that our youngsters really do care for their brothers and sisters in Africa who can only dream about the things that we, in the UK, take for granted.”
